When should you consider using a lawyer in an auto accident?
I was involved in an accident that will probably leave my car totaled. Myself and a passenger in my car were taken to the hospital by ambulance so there are medical bills involved and there may be on going medical bills. Both drivers are insured. The other driver received a citation that seems to show the reason why the accident occurred. Should I get a lawyer?
A lawyer is not needed and would take 1/3 of any settlement anyway. Settle for what you think is fair. All your bills should be paid for and maybe around 1-2k for pain and suffering. Don’t settle until your injuries are resolved and your doctor says you won’t have future problems.

the other driver’s insurance will cover all your medical bills and any bills that you have from the accident, even doctor visits and medications, just have to show whatever proof to the insurance that they ask that they’re from the accident not pre-existing medical conditions
only time you’ll need a lawyer is if the insurance doesn’t pay for all your medical bills, also no need to try getting more money for time off from work, thats what you have sick days for and even vacation if you have to, only time you should ask for that is if you don’t have sick days or vacation days, or if they run out before your healed enough to go back to work, people that aks for way more money than they should really get is the reason why people’s insurance is so high, from people wanting thousands of dollars just for pain and suffering, thats called greed, up to $500 for pain and suffering is fine unless you have limbs cut off or inguries that you’ll have the rest of your life then yes you can ask for a lot more for pain and suffering, im just talking about its greed if someone gets a broken arm or leg and then ask for $5,000

The only time you might want a lawyer is if you have problem settling with the other insurance company. And you need to know that most lawyers will do nothing about your car and will tell you to handle yourself. Their only interest is your injuries and will take 1/3 of any settlement which could mean less in your pocket if you hire.
If the other company accepts fault (police don’t determine fault, insurance determines fault) they will pay the value of your car if it is totaled. Since you and your passenger were injured and treated, they will owe you for your bills plus pain/suffering. But no offer for the injuries will be made till either you or the passenger is done treating, so could be a month to 6 months.
Just wait and see how this plays out and most likely the other company handles so there will be no need to hire a lawyer, since they will pay you what they owe.
good luck
